Mr. Skin Gets N.Y. Times Mention

CHICAGO — The mainstream exposure for Mr. Skin keeps pouring in. The site that celebrates nudity in mainstream motion pictures was prominently featured in the comedy smash hit “Knocked Up,” and yesterday the New York Times featured an article about the Mr. Skin empire.

The Universal Pictures film from the creator of “The 40-Year Old Virgin,” (that has earned more than $142 million at the box office since it opened) follows actor Seth Rogan’s slacker character Ben Stone after he impregnates a girl who’s out of his league during a drunken one-night stand. Stone’s career ambition in the movie is to create a website dedicated to nude actresses on film.

Stone’s plans are foiled, however, when he discovers MrSkin.com already in existence and one of the biggest players in online adult.

Fresh off the success of the company’s big-screen debut, the New York Times reported on MrSkin.com in today’s Business section. The article, titled “Site That Bills Itself as a Movie Reviewer Finds That Sex Sells” by Andrew Newman, profiles the growing achievement (and income) the site is generating through mainstream buzz.

Additional exposure for the site has resulted greater cash flow. According to the article, Mr. Skin reported revenues of $5.3 million last year. In June, the site registered 2.9 million unique visitors according to Internet traffic tracker ComScore. Addtionally, the site boasts a 35 percent increase in unique visitors for July.

“‘Knocked Up’ is to MrSkin.com as E.T. was to Reese’s Pieces,” Mr. Skin said. “From the moment ‘Knocked Up’ opened in theaters, the explosion of media interest in MrSkin.com has been matched by unprecedented increases in the site’s user traffic and membership sign-ups.”

Mr. Skin anticipates even greater returns when the movie finds a home on DVD and attracts a larger audience.

“I and the entire staff of MrSkin.com could not be more grateful to ‘Knocked Up’ writer-director Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures,” he said. “To be associated with this instant classic and massive success is an honor and a privilege — and pretty hilarious, to boot. In fact, it’s skintastic.”
